My name is Matthew Ashton. I run a sports photographic agency called AMA Sports Photo Agency based in England.
We provide images to art directors, creative types, newspaper picture desks and magazine editors.

We have our own self-written online archive housing our images and syndicate them around the world using our system we like to call CindyKate.
AMA are the official photographers of Shrewsbury Town FC, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton FC.
We have some cool clients and basically drive and fly around Europe and sometimes the globe documenting football matches.
We battle daily with more powerful agencies, but our philosophy is that as long as the best picture is used and not what the accountant says then we are happy!
I have personally photographed football in nearly 90 countries and was an official photographer of the UEFA Champions League as well as FIFA.
Regardless of all the UEFA Champions League Finals, J-League matches, Serie A games and tournaments like the African Nations Cup, Asian Cups and Euro tournaments, I am most happy photographing Welsh Football or my beloved Shrewsbury Town. I may have been to the San Siro 62 times at the last count, but nothing beats coming home and shooting a team you care about.
Please Note : Our website is for B2B clients only. That means only true professional picture buyers. Although it is flattering people stealing our pictures and publishing them elsewhere, this does not pay the bills.
This blog started out as a basic “what did you get up to when you were away” kind of thing to my friends who thought I was on holiday all the time!

Hello Matthew, nice blog, being Brazilian and an obvious football fan, besides an amateur photog makes it even more interesting to me. Well, too bad for England today, I still think the 2nd goal would have make a difference.
On question: how do you see the Canon x Nikon rivalry from the practinioner’s pov? It seems there aremore black lenses these days in football matches, compared to the Italy’s WC 4y ago.
